FOR THE MARINES ON THIS BOARD

Gentlemen, I am thinking about starting a project but I need some help. When you gentlemen made rank did you start at PVT, PFC, L/CPL, CPL and then SGT? Anyone higher rank then SGT. Randy, Ryan, William, Mickey, Tracy, Brandon, have I forgotten anyone?

RE: FOR THE MARINES ON THIS BOARD

Kathy, every enlisted Marine starts as a Private. Upon graduation some are promoted to PFC, a select few to LCpl (didn't happen in the 60's). I am unaware of any Marine since the Korean War who 'skipped' a rank. I made SSgt during my second enlistment.

Thanks for that information, what I meant is that not everyone graduates from boot as a PVT, Daf was a PFC when she graduated. I didn't mean any disrespect.

Came out of Boot as a Private. Made PFC just out of ITB and L/Cpl pretty quick after that... Spent a LONG time as a L/Cpl, but I wouldn't trade it for the world! How many E3's get to run a TOW Plt out in the Field? I could Land Nav better then my Lt. who became a Capt.

C'mon, we should be joining forces to make the newbie's cry. Last thing I need on my fitrep is that I'm making LCpl's "feel bad"

RE: FOR THE MARINES ON THIS BOARD

I went in under what was called the QEP (Quality Enlistment Program) in the mid 1980s. Instead of the normal 4 years, we signed a 6 year Active Duty contract and received 3 guaranteed promotions. My memory is bad on this but I recall that though I didn't wear rank until graduation, my date of rank was from my first day at MCRD. The other guarantees were for LCpl at 6 months and Cpl at 13 months. I know I was promoted to Cpl in November of 1986, and that was 13 months after I set foot at MCRD, that is why I am thinking my DOR was Oct and not the day I graduated boot camp in Jan 1986. (Of course I could be wrong). I was promoted to Sergeant (the only promotion I actually earned) in July 1989. We did have a QEP Series Honorman that graduated boot camp as a LCpl. But I don't know of any other "skips" of rank.

Us Secret Squirrel types usually are, but that's the way we like it! I'll see if I can find my original contract (I'm still not sure on that PFC thing or not).
