    August Book Club

For August we are going to read .... "As I lay dying" by William Faulkner

And for September we'll ready "Extremely loud and incredibly close" by Jonathan Safran Foer.

So get your books we'll start August 1st. And I will post the discussion schedule. Of course feel free to read ahead, but in discussions lets try to not spoil it. Smile

So I hope I sorta pleased everyone hahaha, thats a hard task!

So Kaci suggested by the length of the book 14-15 chapters a week. At the end of each week we can have a forum discussion and set up a chat time. The first week August 1- August 8 chapters 1-15 Second week August 9- 15 chapters 16 - 29 Third Week August 16 - 22 chapters 30 - 43 Fourth week August 22 - 29 chapters 44 - 59 Then the 30-31 we can discuss overall thoughts of book, and get ready for next month

Thank goodness we have a HUGE library nearby. I checked the book out today and i have it for quite awhile. Having the library is nice because i'm not too sure if i would have wanted to purchase this book. It kind of seems like a book i would have been forced to read in a literature class in college haha. But i am going to try it out and hope for the best.

    Starting reading tonightBig Smile

Oh also today i stumbled across a book at the library that was our "community read" for the month. It looks a little interesting, its about love, marriage and war. It's called March. I wouldn't make this a group read but i thought i would throw the title out there for people interested.

LOL it's funny you say that cause 'As I Lay Dying' was on one of the summer reading requirements table for a local high school at my Barnes and Nobles.

Haha I kind of figured it was that type of book because when i looked it up on the internet it came up with spark notes. I can never judge a book by its cover or "synopsis" I have to attempt to read it first before I judge it. It just seems a bit out of my element. I'm still really excited about this book thing though.

Is anyone else doing the library deal? A lot of big libraries have good book selections.

I thought i was the only one that felt this way!  HA HA HA!  When i looked it up it came up with the book and foot notes and what not too!  LOL!

I think it's going to be part of the fun to read a book that you wouldn't normally pick out for yourself! I think I might try the library thing too, but I always forget to return them on time so sometimes it just easier to buy them!

Thanks Maggie for getting this thing started it should be fun!

Well Ladies I struck out in finding both books today. So I am going to try the local library, I can't promise anything. I'll have to wait until Saturday because Art has to take my truck to work tomorrow. So I'll let you know if I can find them.

Well ladies count me out of this month and maybe next month. I could not find those books anywhere. I even checked the library & they checked the local college library. I still hope I can find the book for September.

Hey ladies, I'm going to join you at some point... Our libraries here are TINY and so I ordered the August book from the bookstore, it should be here within the next few days (I hope) so I'll jump into the discussions when I get it - I'm a fast reader so I should be able to catchup pretty quickly!

If it takes too long to get here, then I'll just join September's book club - already bought the book for it so I'm set!

OKay all I can say right now is that this book is so confusing haha I'm about 10 chapters in and I know what is going on but it's just they way they talk and bounce around is just hard to put everything together. Anyone else with me or am I the only one?

I am having to read this book very carefully and I think it will give us a chance to really have a lot of discussions about it.  Try sparksnotes, I know they have themes and helps on analyzing it.  Good luck with everything.

I think if we get the discussion going it will make a lot more sense.  This book needs to be talked about.  The reading is going ok but I dunno how much of it I am understanding fully.  What do you ladies think?
