"Imperial Grunts" by Robert Kaplan
I am in the process of reading "Imperial Grunts" by Robert Kaplan...it is a really well writen comentary about today's military and America's quest for a modern form of imperialism. Lots of really meaningful history and a really great slant on our efforts to fight terrorism using the CAP or CAC style of warfare. The coolest thing about the book is the Mr Kaplan was imbeded in all of the military units that he writes about so this is a first hand account versus someone penning an "arm chair" philosopy of how it should be done.
Did you know that we have troops in Mongolia training their army?
Did you know that during Operation Iraqi Freedom we had troops in the Philippians conducting clandestine raids on moslum terrorist training camps and more?
More when I finish.

Marines are in a book of the Bible? Sorry John, I know you meant Phillipines, just yankin your chain lol. I read that book a few years ago and it is an eye-opener as to all the places we have troops stationed.

The May issue of Leatherneck had an interesting article about Marines training the Mongolians. Jimmy Mac, that wasn't Mars, it was The Land of Oz.

It sure did, Chris. That is, it did once you were past the representatives of the lollipop guild. You know, the munchkins with the AKs.
BTW - I got a great deal from this book. Highly recommend it.

We sent troops to the Philippines after 9/11 to target Al Qaeda-connected groups there...Marines, SEALs and other special warfare teams were conducting pretty vigorous operations there.
