    German MG43

Little off from the normal posts to try to liven this place up again.

This last Saturday I got to attend a German weapons qualification called a Schutzenschnur  where I earned their Gold medal that I can wear on my uniform.

Got to shoot the German Sniper rifle PSG-1, Assault rifle (made by Heckler-Koch ) the G36 ,Pistol P8 9mm (HK USP)

and last but not least the MG43 machine gun.The MG43 fires 1200-1500 rounds per minute found this old "Mail Call " video on it.

The MG43 is a updated version of the MG42 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kp-rCZuIbyk

Cool stuff, one question in the vid GySgt Ermy says that the MG43 shoots a "7.92" did he mean 7.62 or did the Germans make a 7.92 round? also I hear that the G36 is an amazing weapon, some of the Army SF guys were using 'em till they got taken away. Is it as good as the rumors say it is??

    Thanks so much

    Re: German MG43

First off the Machine Gun above is a 7.92mm (8mm Mauser) M-1942 or M42 (WWII)

The Machine Gun that Randy qual'd with is General Purpose Machine Gun M43 in 7.62mm NATO (MODERN)

The basic diffewrence between the two guns is the caliber size.  The M42 was such a good machine gun that the Germans retained it in their inventory.

7.92mm or 8mm Mauser was the Standard German Ammo for Pre-1945 Imperial and Nazi Germany. In the Occupation of Germany, it was divided into East and West Geramny.  East being occupied by the Soviets and the West by the French, British, and USA.  (After WWII West German Army, Police, and Border Units were equip'd with 30-06 caliber weapons from the USA, like the M-1 Rifle, 1919 Browning 30 cal Machinegun, etc, etc....)  Later 7.62mm was selected to be the Standard Ammo for NATO, West Germany became part of NATO.

North Atlantic Treaty Organization = NATO

Warsaw Pact was the Soviet equivilent of NATO.
