    Brand new and weary ....

Thanks Ann for letting me post! I've read some forums on here and it has really helped.

We are brand new -- our future Marine has been at MCRD for alittle over a week now and no word from him yet.  This is his dream and I know he's picked the best but I just want to hear from him!

By his ship date June 11, we were told he'd be assigned to Lima Company; but his recruiter says he's in Bravo Co (which would have started this Monday the 18th ).  Has anyone ever had this happen?  We figured if he was delayed for some reason, we'd get a call?? or would they assign two companies in the same week if there was that many recruits?

How long did it take for you to get a letter from your recruit with his address?

thanks in advance, thank God for forums like this!

Re: Brand new and weary ....

    Welcome aboard!

Leslie and I are Marines and proud parents of a Marine with another coming in about 8 years (Jake just turned 10). We received our first piece of mail from our son around the middle of his second week; maybe closer to the end of the week. And, in true form, it was very disheartening. He was stressed to the max going through the culture shock and adjusting the an enviroment where he could do nothing right. The letters got better. Oh, my mother (his grandmother) rememberred my first letters being just as bad.

As for the company he is assigned to, I'm not sure of why they might be some confusion. Of course, there is always the chance that recruits could arrive at the depot and stay in forming a little longer than others. Have you been to the MCRD website to look at the graduation schedule and training matrix? If not, I highly recommend it.

    Thanks Pappy,

Yes, I've researched the MCRD website and have a copy of the training matrix -- helps me visualize somewhat.

Now just waiting to get a message from him -- good or bad -- just want some contact.

thanks again -- for your service!

Re: Brand new and weary ....

Welcome - I was in your shoes last year.  I dropped my son off at a hotel with nothing but the clothes on his back and a bible in his hand.  The second day he was gone I had my meltdown.  Not knowing where he was or how he was doing.  Luckily I found this website and it was a life saver.  The wonderful people here couldn't have been more helpful.  They helped me keep my sanity and learn more about the Marines.  Start looking for a letter in the second and week and don't let it get you down if he doesn't sound good.  It gets better.  I am here for you through boot camp and beyond if I can be of any help.

Congrats on the note.  We never received much but PLEASE write him every day if you can.  If he is like my Marine, he will save and memorize every one.  It really helps them get through. If I can help, let me know.  Jim D
