Gold Star Wives Convention 2006

Becky suggested I post this over here, even though it is not Gold Star Moms - hope you all don't mind. Will be posting occasional updates to our 2006 Convention, which will be held in Portland, Oregon July 18-23. In addition to the regular member meetings, I will have a large number of activities for the (what I call) Gold Star Kids. We are trying very hard to outreach to the younger widows, many of whom have young children. If anyone knows of any Gold Star Wives in their area, please encourage them to come to the convention, or meet with their local chapter. If you go to the National Gold Star Wives of America, Inc. website, there is a link to the Doubletree hotel (site of the 2006 convention), and the hotel has a link to a lot of the local sites and attractions. Maybe the thread should be renamed Gold Star Families to be more inclusive.....what do ya say Ann? The point is to provide information for our entire Marine Corps family. :)

http://www.dougy.org/ Well things are shapiing up nicely for the convention. We have Secretary of Veteran Affairs Jim Nicholson as a speaker, our Memorial Service will be Saturday morning at the Willamette National Cemetary (open to the public), and I have the Dougy Center on board to do some grief sessions with the children, and some fun activities. My son, Philip, will be providing yellow tee shirts for the children that read "Gold Star Kid". We have a number of local businesses that have contributed $$ support and items for raffle. We have a local ROTC unit that wants to provide our color guard. If you know of anybody that should come, please let them know how much we want them to join us.
