    Newbies please read =)

I posted this on another thread to prevent something "bad" from happening. I thought it might be helpful for you to read this as well before you interact with the Marines on this board. Also, upon completion of reading this it would be appreciated if you replied to this thread just to acknowledge that you have read and understand it, thanks. I am a Marine wife so I know what Marines are capable of. So I am writing this in an attempt to prevent the angering of Marines. The Marines on this board are living treasures and we should treat them as such. We have Marines here that have fought battles from Iwo Jima to Iraq. Collectively, the knowledge they possess far surpasses any book or search engine you will ever come across. These men/women are the fabric of the Marine Corps they know it in and out. They come here willing to impart there wisdom on civilians, such as yourself, interested in becoming part of their beloved Corps, granted that they are treated with the respect they earned with their blood, sweat, and tears. If a Marine here gives you an answer you should take it as fact. On the rare occasion the Marine is mistaken, he/she will take it upon himself/herself to make the correction known. It would also be helpful, if you filled out your profile. *******Do not say "Ooh-Rah" and "Semper Fi" you don't rate yet!******* Marine is spelled with a capital M!!!!!

VERY well said. I notice that when things are said well on this Forum, the thread dies. I hope this one doesn't.

That's a great resource for others to read when they join this board. I hope this thread doesn't get kicked down to page 3 and forgotten about.

My head is the size of a wrecking ball right now!! And I sure didn't need any help with that.[:D] Seriously, I want to thank you for your kind words. I was never a hero in the Corps, or anywhere else for that matter, but it is nice to know that my service is appreciated. We also served who typed and filed. [my only combat wound would be from a paper cut].
Now that we've elected a black guy for President, will the liberals please stop calling this a "racist" nation and quietly disappear?

Mark, you are too modest, I remember doing a Combat SAR, to pull you outta the clutches of some mean evil woman, she was a looker, though![:p] Didn't we again answer your "May Day/Broken Arrow" call, from Sangley Point or was it Olongapo? You were about to be over-run by 2 Hooks and a Mama-San![:D]

Well said. I HATE it when people show disrespect to some of America's bravest individuals. I read in a newspaper one time how there was a forum held by a city to discuss people's complaints on helicopter noise from the base. It was disgusting how these "citizens" treated the Marine officials who took their precious time to meet with the folks and answer their questions. They shouted over them, interupted them, insulted them, and had bad attitudes; but the Marines were polite and respectful to the end. How awful. I guess if a person is so petty as to be bothered by helicopter engines, he/she might be petty enough to personally insult our servicemen.

Hello All! My name is Mary Ann and I am looking forward to learning alot about the USMC from those that frequent here, in particular those from the Vietnam era. I am helping my family investigate the MIA status of one of our own heroes. Feel free to check out our remembrance page http://gregoryjharris.blogspot.com Regards, Mary Ann

Hello, I am the Mother of a Marine! I read it. Thank You....will do my best not to offend anyone. My Father is Ret Navy, His Grandmother Ret Army, my Maternal Grandfather Ret Army, many Cousins and Uncles in The Corps. oh and one very special CPL at Camp Lejeune. I have a lot of respect for ALL branches of Military....especially the Marines. I use to say "Ooh Rah Baby"....but now I guess I will have to find something else to end my sentences. It was my way of shouting out "I love you Son, and other then the day you were Born, I am oh so Very Proud of you" and he would answer me back with a "Rah" meaning I love you or Thanks Mom. Anyway, I keep all Marines in my Prayers....Thank you all for serving this great country. I have much Love and Respect....especially when your in your Dress Blues! lol

Why is saying "Ooh-Rah" or "Semper Fi" resticted to only Marines? Is there something I don't know? From what I've learned those phrases are used to boost morale. I've never heard that before. Is that just a rule you made, or does it have a good reason? I just want to understand. I have the highest respect for all of The Marines we have here. If there is significance to your request I will comply. As a Marine Wife would I rate enough to say Ooh-Rah? Please respond, I don't want to step on anyone's toes.

The fact that you have to ask makes me wonder.[xx(] And the way you asked makes it worse. "Is that just a rule you made". There is always someone that challenges the way it's been for 230 years. Go earn a Title, then we'll talk. EDITED: Amy, this is a Forum for newbie, wannabe, maggot types. Wives have their own Forum. If you don't like the rules here, kindly take your leave.

I believe my wife had put this "rule" out there for all people unfamiliar with the Corps who might try to immulate the Marines on this forum, resulting in the wrath from a old, salty Gunny. There is a wives forum where you can link up with some very experienced and veteran Marine Wives who I am sure will answer any questions you might have. So in trying to save a few, poor innocent newbies from receiving their first a$$chewing my wife (who has 7 years TIS) shared these guidelines.

I,m a newby as far as talking on a computer, I was in the Corps in 1963 -1967,I went to Kokomo this past weekend and met a Marine who got out a few years ago, he said I was a hero for serving in the Nam, said his last duty was removing the bodies from the USS Cole, I told him he was just as big a hero as any of us.I hope I don't anger anyone on this website, but you'll only get my honest answers and feelings. Semper Fi.

Tom, This is for the wannabe type newbies. You can post anywhere, anytime. Welcome Aboard Marine. And as far as angering people, rest assured you will at some point. We beat on each other from time to time but we're all still Marines at the end of the day.

Well said Ron. The rules are for the maggots. I could care less what a wife says in her daily life. But wannabes on this Forum are going to capatilize Marine and they aren't going to say Semper Fi. Ooh-Rah I don't really care so much about. The way I see it, if you can't follow a few simple rules here, you don't have a snowball's chance in hell of making it as a Marine.

Thank you for clearing that up. When I said I didn't want to step on anyone's toes, I meant it. Thanks again.
