My way of beating the high price of gas.....

Since I retired most of my travel is real local... down to the store, over to the bakery, visit to the VFW etc. (all local streets/road travel under 5 miles... max. speed limit on the longest is 40 mph).  So instead of using my truck... I picked up one of these.  So far it is getting about 90+ mpg.  While not the Harley or old Indian of my younger days, this is doing OK.  Paid (new) less than $700 for it and figure with gas at $4.00 +/- in this area, it will pay for itself in a little less than a year.

George, you can be like one of those Italian guys riding around in Little Italy and pinching American girls on the a$$. LOL I think it's a great idea.

I have a friend who is from Denmark who drives a Vespa around town, although I don't think they're legal on the freeways. My macho days of driving a Harley are over . Hell, I'm not proud, I've been thinking about getting one of those as illustrated by the MGySgt. or a Vespa. The Vespas are quite expensive though.

    Here's my choice

    Cheaper to buy

    Cheaper to operate

    Comes with health benefits.

If memory serves me right that would not be your case.  Seem to remember a incident of yours.

Defection occurs.  Devil  However, if I hadn't been in good condition (from bike riding) I may not have survived the surgery.  I'm up to riding 50 miles in a day now.

Walking, biking is my favorite mode of movement, where practical. I meet my goal of 1,000 miles per year walking, every year. I am in the market for another bike right now. I like JimMac’s "pinch and run" part as far as the scooter is concerned.

We would not be having this conversation if our fearless leaders had acted after the mid 70s embargo and contrived gas shortages of that era. That was brought on by the same rag-heads as today. We had the same windmill, solar panel, corn fuel, need 50 MPH talk as we have now. Our oil people, automotive people and pols did nothing. The Japanese did force us to improve gas milage via old fashion competition. Now we have the same old media bludgeoning conservatives to their knees with "fuel costs". On the coattail of that they are bringing a full fledged socialist nothing to "lead" this country. (Sorry, didn't mean to turn the thread into a rant.)

I ride my bike almost everywhere--or did until some punk walked into my fenced backyard and all the way up to my back door to steal it off the porch.

I'm looking to get a lighter one this summer.

I do like the little blue scooter, though. I don't think it would work well around my parts as its all highway & freeway even locally.
