Further Update on Sherrif Joe (05/14/08)

The County Line      County Line Comment:  Thanks to retiree Randy Sherman who sent along this information.  Randy lives in Yuma, AZ.  Sheriff Joe could always get a job in the police academy teaching "BALLS 101".  The ground over John Duffy's grave must be cracking as he claps and screams "Way to Go Joe".  The video clips are long but very interesting.  Comments the press received  were 71% = it's dirty politics and 25% = overeaction.       PHOENIX -- Sheriff Joe Arpaio addressed recent cuts to the department's illegal immigration enforcement fund, calling  it "dirty politics" and "a total sham".

http://www.azfamily.com/video/3tvextra-index.html?nvid=244980     GUADALUPE -- UPDATE: The Mayor of Guadalupe released the following statement in response to Sheriff Arpaio's letter:    "The Town of Guadalupe is in receipt of Sheriff Joe Arpaio's letter serving as his 180 day notice of cancellation. I had previously scheduled a work study session for the council to look at other options for law enforcement protection before receiving this notice. I am disappointed that Sheriff Arpaio chose to issue this letter of cancellation to the media immediately after delivering the letter to town officials. This is yet another attempt by Sheriff Arpaio to garner more media attention for himself and his office. It is also unfortunate that when people speak up against Sheriff Arpaio, that he uses vindictive and retaliatory tactics against them."    Rebecca JimenezMayor, Town of Guadalupe

PREVIOUS REPORT:     The following is a press release from the Maricopa County Sheriff's Office:    Recent actions and statements made by the Town of Guadalupe against the Sheriff's Office are unjust and ignore the professional law enforcement services provided by the Sheriff's Office for the past 30 years. These criticisms are not only a disservice to the deputies serving the Town but reflect poorly on the community as a whole.

The current law enforcement contract provides 1.66 beats which includes patrol, responses to emergency calls, arrests of suspects, traffic enforcement and accident investigations, investigation of alleged crimes, property and evidence safekeeping, up to date reporting systems, dispatch and police communications services for a total charge to the Town of $1,186,000. At no additional cost, the Sheriff's Office provides canine, SWAT, posse and helicopter search and rescue. As with all law enforcement contracts, the Sheriff's Office only charges the Town for actual cost recovery. Neither the Sheriffs Office nor Maricopa County profit from the payment received for law enforcement services to the Town.      The Office has provided the community with proactive crime suppression enforcing all laws of the State of Arizona on a quarterly basis. These additional enforcement activities have been successful in reinforcing the safety of the community. Our recent activity resulted in 45 individuals arrested and booked. Of the 45 arrests, 18 individuals were warrant arrests (a total of 28 warrants were cleared); 6 individuals were arrested for drug violation; 9 individuals, after being interviewed, were determined to be illegal immigrants; 12 individuals were arrested for miscellaneous other charges. In addition, 22 misdemeanor citations and 120 traffic citations were issued.

The Sheriff's Office is not a sanctuary law enforcement agency. The Office does not pick and choose which laws it will or will not enforce. The Sheriff's Office is totally committed to enforcing all laws fairly and equitably. Statements made by you and the Phoenix mayor reflect a disturbing discrimination and selective enforcement agenda that certain laws passed by the legislature and voted upon by the citizens of Maricopa County should not be enforced. As the position of the Sheriff's Office is one of dedication to full law enforcement and the Town's position is one of selective and self-serving law enforcement, the Sheriff's Office has decided to invoke the termination clause of its law enforcement agreement with the Town of Guadalupe.

This letter will serve as the 180 day written notice. This should give the Town sufficient time to study and research the law enforcement needs of the community and explore other law enforcement alternatives.

    Sincerely,

    Joseph M. ArpaioSheriff

Just wanted to let you know that yesterday, one of the sheriff's officers stopped the Mayor of Guadalupe and cited her for the following; One headlight out, No registration, and no drivers license. Pretty ironic isn't it. Wait till you hear her scream about this in the media.

LOL.  Good on Sheriff Joe.  I really like the comment that he should teach "Balls 101" at the police academy.

I am a HUGE Sheriff Joe fan, and he could use our help right now.

Governor Napolitano has pulled his financing to stop him from detecting, detaining and processing for deportation illegal aliens.  Her claim is that she wants him to focus solely on serving warrants.

Sheriff Joe is on the front lines of this battle and he is outstandingly successful -- which is why his opponents want to shut him down -- and therefore lobbied to have his contract cancelled and funding pulled.

Please think about supporting Sheriff Joe's efforts and sending him a few dollars.  We mailed a check for $25 to the address listed in Phoenix. His work goes beyond the boundaries of AZ.  I know money is tight for everyone, but even small donations from across the nation would send the message that people CARE and this is an IMPORTANT law enforcement issue/priority.

Thanks for putting up with my rant,

Fight Illegal Immigration DIRECTLY: Support Your “Local” Sheriff

Earlier this week Arizona Governor Janet Napolitano diverted almost $2 million dollars in funding from Joe Arpaio and the county sheriff’s office - by executive order. The funding had been originally appropriated by the Arizona state legislature specifically for the sheriff’s activities relating to enforcement of state human smuggling laws.

In a press conference Wednesday, Napolitano stated that Sheriff Joe was using state money to cause stess in the “illegal community”, and that money would no longer be available. Since beginning the “crime prevention sweeps”, Arpaio’s office has busted over 900 illegal aliens and smugglers - many of them with existing felonies.

Here you have a state governor openly admitting she wants to protect the “illegal community”. The MCSO is one of a few local law enforcement agencies in America (if not the only) aggressively going after the illegal invaders.

It’s time to fight back against the and send a few bucks to the Maricopa Country Sheriff’s office to DIRECTLY fund the crime sweeps. Even if you don’t live in Arizona, this is put-up-or-shut-up time. Your contribution will render actual results in fighting illegal immigration - as opposed to giving money to a political candidate or PAC.

Specify on your check “to fight illegal immigration” and make payable to:

    “MCSO Donation Fund”
    100 W. Washington 19th floor Suite 1900
    Phoenix, AZ 85003
