    Calling all wives!!!!!

    WIVES! Help me out! haha.

Cole wants to go to JOP when he comes home May 23-27. We are thinking of going Tuesday morning before he leaves since they won't be open on Monday. So he has assigned me the task of finding out what he needs to do once we are married. ANY help would be appreciated. What does he need to do about putting me on insruance and letting the Marines know he's married. YIKES! also, on a side note what do I need to do once I'm married. just chance my last name?!? Thanks guys!!

He'll need to visit the office that is holding his Service Record and find out which documents he needs to bring back to complete the application for your Military ID card.  That will also get you entered into DEERS which will allow you to use TRICARE once you have the ID card.  You wil need to check with the city and/or county of the JOP and see what their requirements are in the way of paper work, ie Birth Certificates to prove you're old enough to do this with parental approval, blood test(maybe maybe not) 39 years ago when I got married the blood work was a requirement.  You could also check with the local recruiter about where you can go to get an ID CARD.
Best of luck on the Start of your new career as a Marine Wife.

ok easy part (ahaha) YOU need to get a new Social secuity card. then you need to change your name on every account/bill/card you own. so banks, insurance, grocery store savings, the post office, cell phone provider. anything that sends you a bill. your library card? lol everything.

(via George) He needs her ss card, birthcirt, marriage license and a photo copy of an ID. Bring it either to IPAC or S-1(whichever his unit has) and they will take care of everything pay wise. Then, take her to the ID card office to enroll her into DEERS and get her ID. Then to Tricare and Dential. In that order

I see you are in Texas. You do not need a blood test. There is no wait period either because he is active duty military(it was like that 11 years ago). You need your BC and ID at the court house. Call ahead to see where you need to go and what you will need. Also, he can't do anything unless he has a copy of your marriage certificate. What we did was hand carry the original certificate to the court house the next business day. They can make a certified copy of it for you. Without some proof of marriage he can't enter you into DEERS. Don't make the mistake of allowing the minister or JP turn it in because you won't get it back for weeks. My 1st stop was to the DL office. My mother's address was used as our record of home address. That way we remained Texas residents. Good luck to you guys!! I wish you a lifetime of love and happiness.

This was 5 years ago but (1) Got married by JOP and got the license (2) Hubby took it to his admin, audited his SRB, got BAH/BAS started, changed beneficiaries, updated his RED (3) Went to the DEERS/ID office, got put into DEERS and got my ID (4) Went to the TriCare office, enrolled in TriCare Prime and United Concordia (5) Went to the social security office, sent away for new SS card (6) When we went home on leave, changed my name on my drivers license, both my husband and I still have our addresses on our licenses to our parents home addresses (7) changed voter registration (8) changed my name on all my accounts, hubby added me to all of his accounts (9) got a POA (10) Got a base decal.  I believe that was it!

omg you guys i'm so excited and freaked out! lol. i'm such a planner and this is throwing me into chaos.

does it matter if i am not with him on base when he turns in his information?

we are going to the JOP at 8am on Tuesday and he leaves at 3:30pm that same day so we don't have time to do anything I don't think.

My husband went by himself to his admin to do the audit, the BAH/BAS and all of his information updates.  I went with him for DEERS so I am not sure if you would have to be there or not.  Try not to be frazzled, it really isn't too bad.

*breathe in, breathe out* Like Maggie said, it really isn't too bad. Everyone pretty much nailed everything on the head. I'm not sure if it's like this with every unit but when my husband and I got married (JOP) they gave him some time within the next week to get all the paperwork done. (I had to go back to NY to finish up my semester in school) All you really need to do it get your SS card changed, credit cards, bank account, and driver's license. The most lengthly of these things to do is SS and driver's license just because you have to stand in line to do it all. Congrats hun!

I think everyone pretty much covered all the documents you need, but I just wanted to say congratulations!! How exciting! Try not to stress too much, everything will work out.
