LCpl Jordan C. Haerter and Cpl Jonathan T. Yale

    IMMEDIATE RELEASE No. 345-08
    April 25, 2008

    DoD Identifies Marine Casualties

The Department of Defense announced today the death of two Marines who were supporting Operation Iraqi Freedom.

Lance Cpl. Jordan C. Haerter, 19, of Sag Harbor, N.Y.

Cpl. Jonathan T. Yale, 21, of Burkeville, Va.

Both Marines died April 22 from wounds suffered while conducting combat operations in Al Anbar province, Iraq. Haerter was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 9th Marine Regiment, 2nd Marine Division, II Marine Expeditionary Force, Camp Lejeune, N.C. Yale was assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 8th Marine Regiment, 2nd Marine Division, II Marine Expeditionary Force, Camp Lejeune, N.C.

Media with questions about these Marines can contact the 2nd Marine Division public affairs office at (910) 450-6575.

Later that night, while I was thinking about the day's somber events, Cpl. Richard A. Mason, an infantryman with Headquarters Platoon, who, in the short time I was with the company became a good friend, told me, "You're still here, don't forget that. Tell your kids, your grandkids, what Sgt. Peralta did for you and the other Marines today."
Quote from a story written by combat correspondent LCpl Travis J. Kaemmerer who, unfortunately, died in a car crash in Virginia after returning from Iraq.
