I'm new here, my husband just got recalled from the IRR

Hello laides, I am new here so I will give you a little bit of background info about me and my husband.  We started dating back in 2005 before he was deployed to Iraq, after he got back he finished his 4 years and moved back home to IN.  I moved to IN last summer and we got married in September.  David (my husband) just recently got his letter telling him to report to Kansas City in May to be recalled to active duty.  I have been told by some people that this will be an unaccompanied tour and that he will definitely be deployed.  He said that he will end up at either Camp Lejeune or Camp Pendleton before the deployment and after.  He will only be active for a year.  Has anyone else experienced this before or know anyone who has? Since we do not live on a military base now I was wondering if they will let us both live on whichever one he is stationed at or if they will give him money so I can hopefully live nearby?  ANY information at all about this would be appreciated.  I am still waiting for it to all sink in.  Thank you so much for your help!  I know that some people keep saying unaccompanied but I keep hoping that someone knows something different!

Hi my name is Kelly, my husband Matt has been in for 3 years. We have 2 children Liberty is 3 and Matthew JR is 1. We're at Camp Pendleton!

I don't know much about gett recalled, but I'm pretty sure that once he's active that he'll get BAH. About you going to live with him, I'm not really sure of that. Most of the time he'll be training and then be in Iraq for 7 months..... I say enjoy your time with him now and see how things go. I hope the other ladies are able to help you more!

Hi, My name is Trisha and my husband's name is Art. We have been married 7 years in June and we have 3 kids. Art EAS'd out of the Marines in December 2002 and was recalled out of  the IRR in February 2003. We were not able to move with him to Camp Lejuene (although we did visit) because he was staying in the barricks and was not officially attached to a unit. Don't take this the wrong way but I would think it would be very expensive to move to where he is going to be and then have to move back in a year, also he might not be at the base that long. Art was on Lejuene only a month for training and then deployed overseas and was only there about 2 weeks after he got back. Just wanted to say welcome to Grits.

    Howdy!

My name is Amanda and I have been with my Husband Chris for ten yrs. He just got back stateside last week from Iraq. He is a Reservist who volunteered to go Active Duty. I would assume that IRR is very much like going Active from Reserve.

We also do not live anywhere near a base. When he activated the kids and I stayed here. He went to Pendelton for training for three months before deploying with his unit. He received BAH (which did make our mortgage payment) and the Govt. put him up on base. He also got meal money (I don't know what it is called) and he paid for his own stuff in Cali.

I hope that information is helpful and if you need anything just let us girls know. There are some very very nice women here who can help you get through anything!

It doesn't get any better than this!

Thank you girls so much!  It helps to not feel like I am the only one going through this!  Being out here in IN there are not many military families around so I feel pretty alone.  I am from right outside of DC so when he is activated and I go home I will have a lot more support.  Please pray for him to get assigned to Camp Lejeune because it is only about 4 1/2 hours from where my family lives in VA so it will be much easier to visit him than if he was in CA!

    Hi Jess,

Welcome to Grits! My name is Stephanie, and my husband is Patrick. We've been married about 4 months now, and he's getting ready to start deployment training right around the corner. We're both from CT originally, but we're stationed at Camp Pendleton now. I don't have much information on the IRR, but just wanted to introduce myself, and I'm sure some of the other ladies will have all the knowledge!

You are definitely not alone.  My husband is currently a recruiter and he has seen quite a few IRR Marines come into his office with their recall letters wondering what is going to happen.  Its happening increasingly more often.

Welcome to the site.  I am Maggie, married for almost 5 years to my husband.  We have two beautiful little boys.  We are currently experiencing the wonderful world of recruiting duty and counting down until we are back to the fleet.  I look forward to getting to know you better.

    Welcome to Grits!

I'm Stacy. I'm 21 and my husband and I are at Camp Pendleton CA. We have a daughter, Elizabeth, who is 14 months old. I wish I could help you out with all of this but I've never experienced the whole recall thing. I have a close friend of mine who's husband is being recalled and she is so scared. I can't imagine going through all of this. I really hope everything works out and you can get some answers. We're all here if you need us! :o)

Hey Jess!  Welcome aboard.  My name is Judi and I am one of the moderators.  My husband just retired after 20 years last year.  We moved "home" to South Texas.  I have been a part of these wonderful ladies for many years as I used to work for Sgt. Grit.  You will have a hard time finding a more caring group of women.  The amount of knowledge we all share combined is limitless so feel free to ask any question you may have.  Remember the only dumb question is one not asked.

Hey!I'm Renee, I am a Marine & so is my beau. I know one Marine who got called back from the IRR & from what I understand, they usually are unaccompanied (& usually to Iraq as well). I know that sounds like bad news!! But if you stick around here, the ladies will give you the low down & dirty and make you a part of our "family". You'll get through it, whatever it is!

Hey hun, welcome to Grits! My name is Courtney and my fiance is Chris, he's a reservist out of Pennsylvania and was called into active duty service back in 2006 so I may be able to answer some of your questions. Chris went to Lejeune for a month, was home for a about a week of leave, then went to the Mojave Viper in 29 Palms. After that it was off to Iraq. It sounds like that may be what you're headed for. I know all about what it's like to live away from a base, trust me! Anyways, I'm 21, Chris is 22 and I'm a student at Penn State studying advertising. Hope to get to know you better!

    Courtney :)

I'm sorry to hear your husband was recalled.  That has to be really hard to deal with.  Just know that all the ladies here are VERY supportive and helpful.  I don't really have any advice but I think it would be crazy to move just for a few more months.  I'm sure your husband won't have much time to spend with you while they are training to go to Iraq and he'll be gone for at least 7 months.  I would go and stay with family if I were in your shoes and visit him when you can before he leaves.  I know it will be hard though.  Well my name is Jen and I've been married for almost five years now.  My husband has been a Marine for a little over 4 years now.  We have three wonderful boys who are 9, 2 1/2, and 1 1/2.  If you have any more questions ask away.

Welcome to Grits!!! My name is Zori, and my husband is Matthew. We've been married about a year and a half now, and just welcomed our first little bundle of joy into the world 2 weeks ago! We're stationed at Camp Pendleton, and Matthew is currently in Iraq on his second deployment. I can't really help with any information on IRR, but wanted to introduce myself. Also as an idea you could go up into the Open Marine forum (I promise if you introduce yourself and give them some background info, like you did with us, that they wont bite!) They might be able to give you a bit more information seeing as their all Marines or Retired Marines, some of whom have been in for YEARS!

Hope you stick around, you've found a great site for support!!!

He is currently on his second deployment to Iraq and should be back sometime in october. I'm sorry, I don't have any information about being recalled. But it's good to have you here!

Re: I'm new here, my husband just got recalled from the IRR

My husband got his IRR letter about 2-3 years ago, too. Our situation is a little different though. My husband was found to be 30% disabled by the VA doctors and can not be activated. So with people calling him left and right to find out why he had not attended the meeting(the first time the meeting was in NY, if its more then 50-100 miles you just call them and say that you can not attend and need to go another time. The second time we had all out medical paper work ready to fax into them.) we just faxed in the disabiliity stuff and that was that. His contract totally exspired last July so we are free and clear of anymore IRR recall letters.

Once/if he is activated you will be able to find more answers through his command and other people as far as living arrangements go. With the Marines though, you may not get an answer til last minute so try and hang in there!

I dont know know anything about getting recalled, but like MissStacy said.. a friend of ours just found out that her hubby is getting recalled so she's going through the same thing!  Hope you find out details soon and we're all here for ya!
