"Marine Corps Tank Battles in Vietnam" by Oscar E Gilbert

Ed Gilbert attended the past three USMC Vietnam Tankers Association reunions spending countless hours interviewing many members gleaning the details of their combat experiences...as well as their Marine Corps careers, long and short.  He then took the "official" Command Chronologies of the USMC in Vietnam and he pieced together the "official" history of tanks and their involvement in the Vietnam War.  When he had the pieced together the history book version of the various tank battles he then wove the personal histories into the fabric blending the two into a riveting quilt work that is (for me) a first class page turner.  The book is profound, profane and somewhat humorous.  And for me, being personally acquainted with the majority of the players in the book is wonderful thing.

Sounds like a good one John. Where is it for sale? amazon? MCA ? Grit's?

Later that night, while I was thinking about the day's somber events, Cpl. Richard A. Mason, an infantryman with Headquarters Platoon, who, in the short time I was with the company became a good friend, told me, "You're still here, don't forget that. Tell your kids, your grandkids, what Sgt. Peralta did for you and the other Marines today."
Quote from a story written by combat correspondent LCpl Travis J. Kaemmerer who, unfortunately, died in a car crash in Virginia after returning from Iraq.

Bro Chris:  I do not know when it will be released to the public. I believe that it is only available for "future sale" on Amazon.com.  Since I am president of the USMC Vietnam Tankers Assn I got an advanced copy to review it.  I was surprised to see so many of our membership qutoed in it.  I definately was a page turner for me.

By the by, Ed Gilbert is a Marine cannon cocker vetern.  He has written several historical books on Marine tank combat.  One for WW II, one for Korea and now Vietnam.

The Military Book Club has this book in a full-page as "Featured Book of the Month."
