    Free Time in Boot Camp?

I know this question should be the least of my worries, but I'm really curious. So any input would be greatly appreciated. Is it true that in Boot Camp you get 1 hour a night of free time and 4 hours on Sunday? I was just wondering if this time could truly be used for anything? Like could I use that time to shower for more then a few minutes? Or write home? Or just sleep if I wanted? Thanks in advance. -Monique

There are times when you get free time, don't count on it too soon though.

Ajax_Girl could probably give you a take on the 4th Bn timelines.

If I'm not mistaken, Sunday is your only free time and that is mostly for going to church and writing letters home.  But, Renee, should be able to help you with that.  You could check the matrix on the Parris Island web site to get the schedule.

As with many things in the Corps "free time" is not what it sounds like it ought to be.  While I am 40 yrears out of boot I think it hasn't changed that much.  Free time on Sunday is for church and laundry, polishing anything that needs polish, writting and studying.  I am pretty sure the showers are secured.  Showers are usually open only for those times in the morning and evening when the Drill Instructor sends the watches to personal hygene.  The evening free time is pretty much the same.  I am pretty sure you will not be authorized any sleep time until lights out.

Every Company and every platoon is different. If I recall correctly, your free time doesn't start for awhile. You absolutely CANNOT sleep during that time. Sleep is a privelege in boot camp! After a loooong time, we were allowed to shower during free time, but I beleive that was only on Sundays. And VERY close to the end. You will find that such little things as washing your hair or shaving your legs become a serious treat while you are there, I wouldn't expect too much out of your free time. Often it is shortened, and you are given other things to take care of.
