This is a tough read when it gets to the battle portion of the events covered.  It is a shame such indomitable courage was overwhelmed by numbers.  It's also maddening to read that these brave men took into account how they'd be portrayed by the press and then persecuted by the government if they'd taken the proper action to protect them when they were discovered by goat herders in the mts.  They let the goatherds go and were killed for it.

D'oh~!!  and jeebus!!  ya got me Chuck.  Must have been listening to the Temptations when I wrote that and or thinking about repairing my Fryes.

I saw an interview (on Bill O'Rielly?) with this man. Very well spoken and way to short on time allowed.

Jim, the Media's favorite all time story from Afganistan is about the Army's "friendly-fire" coverup on Tidwell. They were also eager to report on the Seals' death but stayed silent on  the  ROE crap that got them killed.

The really bad thing about that incident, Roy, is that it wasn't official rules of engagement that got those SEALs killed.  The team leader and Luttrell made the call on letting the goat herds go.  One of the SEALs wanted to wax them, maybe a good move but they would be missed, and the fourth went either way.  So, the decision was made based on their fears of being court martialed, or worse, if they had killed the goat herds.  A flip of the coin that went bad.

Over the past month or so I have heard or read six or seven extremely positive coments about this book.  I have not read it but it is on my TO READ list now.
