19 March 2003: The war against Iraq begins 20 March 2003 5:30 AM Baghdad time (9:30 PM EST, March 19), when the U.S. launches Operation Iraqi Freedom.

 I can't believe it's been five years already. I was a junior in high school and I remember watching everything unfold on TV. At the time, I knew no one in the military and Iraq was a country that didn't matter much to me.

Two years later my brother joined the Marine Corps and assured us all "this war will be over before I ever leave PI".

Today, my brother has served one deployment in Iraq and my fiance has spent a total of 14 months in the sandbox. I have met some amazing Marines and incredible families who have gone through this war with a brave face and have truly been an inspiration. 

To all of you Marines on the board and to all of the family members, thank you. Let's just hope we aren't making a 10 year post 5 years down the road

I agree with you hun.

I can't believe that it has been five years.  I still remember those days like it just happened yesterday.  I  also want to say to all the Marines on here and and their families, THANK YOU for serving and being there for the Freedom of the US.
