    I'm home from Peleliu Island...

Hi all!  I've just returned from Peleliu Island.  I went there to honor an old and forever family friend...my "other Daddy"...:)  He was an Avenger Pilot.  His pictures and information is now (and forever) in the World War II Museum on Peleliu.  ANYWAY...enough of that!

While I was there touring I went to Orange Beach and filled up a water bottle with sand.  I know the 1st Marines landed there and I thought, perhaps, someone's father or grandfather might have been part of that and they or their loved ones would like some sand from there.

There's no charge, of course...your loved one has already paid that price times a zillion!  Just let me know if you'd like some and I'll put some in a zip lock and send it your direction.

You Marines are really something...brave, brave men served in Peleliu.......

    Thanks,

    Cynthia

    Cynthia,

Thank you for posting your kind offer of the sand. If you don't mind, I would like a small bit of it to give to my neighbor that was a Plane Mechanic for VMF-114 there. The Squadron did some really good flying and produced a few Aces.

Tom Lamont is his name. He is 82 now and still active, works part time and a good golfer. Tom stated that the Pilots would come into the mechanic's tent that was located next to the Pilot's ready area and get coffee from their tent because they had better coffee. He makes good coffee.

He told me that he would go to the reunions, but eventually, he stopped because alot of the enlisted people stopped going due to health issues and age. His last reunion was in the 90's. He said he had a list of all the pilots and he would look for it, I'll have to nudge him again I guess Smile
