Time for this big mouth to put up or shut up. Climbing from under a rock into the real world is no excuse for being insulting and a poop. Russ, these Marines have wiped better things off of their shoes then you have shown yourself to be. I wouldn't want you anywhere around My Marines with your attitude, that's how people get killed because of idiots like you.

I appologize for everything said. The first thing that came to mind when Kilo asked me if I was sure I was in the right service was an insult on my intelligence. That's all I saw from it. Then when told to STFU...I saw another insult on intelligence...I joined the board, because I have nothing else to do. I sit around and wait. I have to wait until July before I go. I asked all of those questions just to get more info. Just to keep busy. I realize that the Army has the Rangers and SF, the Navy has the SEALs..I just wondered if a marine had attended either of the schools..just as extra training..I didn't mean any disrespect by asking about it in a Marine forum. I picked the Corps because I had respect for it. WAY more respect than any other branch. I also understand that Boot Camp is a huge and challenging step to take. I actually read several books about it about a month ago. There is only so much you can know about something, you just have to experience it yourself, right? It got to where I wasn't finding any new information on it, so I started looking at what I had on my plate after it..I started reading about SOI, and Recon( Bat Rec, Force, Marsof..) whatever I could find out. Then I found this forum. I've been infatuated on what is yet to come for me, every since I signed my name on that contract.. I appreciate everyone's advice, and what you all have done for me and our country. I had no right to say those things..I got angry and out of control with my response. Once again, I appologize. I also want you all to know, I have a very very large goal set. It's just all I have..to be honest with you. I want to do everything I can to attain it. I want to go to Boot. If I could, I would go tomorrow. I'm not trying to be cocky. I don't think I'm better at anyone or that I'm gonna smoke all the others when I get there. I just want to go so bad, it's all I can think about. I'm going to just shut up at this point..I'll just stop worrying about trying to dig out as much info as I can.

Kid, you are AFU!
So, STFU!
You aern't in ANY Service, you've never been on Active Duty, you are no one. You only read books and web sites.
So, your little tantrum with Kilo, was just wrong.
You really don't know or understand sh*t.
I'm sure your damn Recruiter is putting up with your crap, just to get the quota.
You better change you attitude.
Right now, you're a friggin' wannabee loser here.
You really impressed every Active, Reserve, and Former Marines here.

If you think that was an insult to your intelligence , you better re read all statements because it was not even close , maybe you should reconsider your self confidence before shipping . Boot Camp will be far worse than that , and you can't just close the webpage there .
That being said cocky is okay , self confident is better , goals are good but stay grounded and focus on the main task ahead , which should be your short time goals, ie. prepare for shipping to boot camp not only physically but mentally and all other support wise (home , finances ect)

Just some current info on this discussion.
1. The young man in question has enlisted w/ the UZ program. This is the guaranteed Recon contract. There are very few of these programs out there. I've only put one person in on this program. His Dad is a Marine, his Brother is a Marine and his parents raise Marines like some people raise dogs. He has ran a 300 PFT since I met him when he was 15. My assumption is that he has been found qualified as they don't throw this program around lightly.
2. According to MARADMIN 417/07 the Recon Units are no longer responsible for physical screening (due to operational tempo) and the BRC is being revamped. Also BRC is open to all Marines of any MOS Pvt-Cpl with less than 2 years time in grade. MOS 0321 is closed to SSgt or Higher for LatMoves. Marines are also not required to pass the INDOC prior to being assigned to BRC, but will not graduate until they have a 1st Class PFT, and successfully complete all Recon Marine Combat Water Survival Training Standards. Minimum standards by the MARADMIN as follows: Male, US Citizen, GT 105 or higher, CWS-3 swim qual, 200 or higher on PFT, secret clearance eligibility etc.
3. Also, MARSOC and FORCE Recon are two seperate entities. Just as Force and the Division Recon Bn are seperate. There are Recon Marines in MARSOC, but not all Marines in MARSOC are Recon. MARSOC has it's own requirements and school, and you can volunteer for MARSOC as any O3XX or Radio Operator.
The poolee may have been a putz, but he was given the current, correct, information by his recruiter.
Ladies and Gentlemen, things change in our beloved Corps. By jumping all over this kid and raising the BS flag on him, you in turn questioned the integrity of his recruiter in his mind. Yes, he needs to focus on successfully completing Boot, and then SOI, and then BRC, but he is in that pipeline, in that order.
Also, this kid ain't my Recon wannabe. Mine is too busy chasing skirts and going to State for any of the 4 sports he's lettered in to be online.

I am WAY late on this one but when I read it I had to comment. You should be working hard to become a Marine. However, never try to lay out where you think you may be going or what you want to do until you are well in your MOS. My husband joined the Marine Corps in 95. He was an 0331, Infantry Heavy Machine Gunner. He could have gone anywhere in the Marine Corps because he was highly intelligent however,he wanted to be a Recon Marine and the infantry was the best way to get there. He ran, trained and was ready to go and then he met me. He shipped to boot camp and when he returned his life changed. We married. He was an OUTSTANDING Marine. A few years passed and he went to the Recon Indoct. and failed. Yep, he was so nervous that the man that had a 298 PFT, was a scout swimmer and made Sgt in 2 years meritoriously failed to make it. He could have gone back and attempted the INDOCT again but it wasn't in his cards. He was also slated to go to Ranger School. However, an Officer bumped him and he wasn't able to go due to the needs of the Marine Corps. So Instead he began to get educated and in the end became an Infantry Officer and was able to lead some of the finest young men in this country to battle. He was well on the way to a 30 year career. He was seriously wounded in 2004 and became combat ineffective. He did 11 years, 9 months and 5 days. I felt compelled to share that with you because you need to take one step at a time. You may change your direction many times. Make sure you read a lot while you are training. There are several good books out there. "Why Marines Fight" by James Brady is a start. Run, then run more. Pull ups, push ups...I wish you the best because we need good Marines defending our nation. Oh, and show some respect. You are in the presence of some amazing Americans, those who can call themselves Marines.

Renee, thank you for post. Sometimes these kids can't see anything past what they consider the glory jobs. They can't understand that it isn't all glory. Hope things are well with you and your family.
