    He's Off to NC

Well, I dropped Roly off at the bus station yesterday for his trip to NC to start ITB. He hates flying and has never taken a bus before...but from what everyone was telling him, he'll probably never take a bus again. LOL. It was sad watching him go, but at least he'll get libo on the weekends and has a cell. He's already called 5 times since he left yesterday at 3pm. :) My friend took me to see Sweeney Todd at the performing arts center as a distraction. Has anyone seen the movie? The play was pretty cool...eerie...but that's what it is. haha. Roly should be arriving in Jacksonville, NC at 330p today and has to check in tomorrow.

I'm so excited for him. He was thrilled to be going back. Not leaving me...but going back to complete his training.

So what can you ladies tell me about this leg of the training? What can I expect?? Thanks!!!!

Uggh! I remember dropping Tj off at the bus station in Albany to ride all the wasy to Jacksonville. It was so long! Isnt it exciting though that now hes really starting training and is able to actually call.  Hes coming on a good day because its finally starting to warm up here.  I don't know what that trainging is my husband is a mechanic. What is this trainging??

Wow. That sounds like a long trip too! It is very exciting that he can actually call. Yay!! He was worried about the cold...but he's a tough cookie.

It's infantry training. So he said he'll be out in the field a lot. He told me not to write just yet. He wants to feel things out...so I was wondering if anyone here had any words of wisdom. :)

That's it. But I was corrected by him when he came home. He said, eh-hem, SOI is the main school of infantry, broken into MCT and ITB. I was like, oh, excuse me. Now that I posted it, I'll probably be wrong. So please correct me if I am. I don't wanna look like a butt-head. :) But that's the info he gave me. LOL.

52 day of training. They learn about grenades, IEDs, MOUT (Urban training), combat formations, land nav, patrols and what not. They go to the field and go on humps. Shaun had every weekend off. The cell phone service sucked but his rack was the only place it was ok so he was popular.  I went to see him every weekend and he called almost everyday.

Oh! So I can see him on the weekends? I mean, I can't go every weekend b/c Miami-NC every weekend would leave us super broke! And my cats would miss me. LOL. But at least once would be sooo cool. Surprise

Yeah I just had to go get a day pass and tell them his name rank yada yada. Friday evening he hoped in the car and off we went until Sunday. I took another Marines girlfriend and they let us right on. He'll tell you what weekends he'll have off. Sometimes they have firewatch but usually if you have a visitor you can trade around and stuff. But mostly every weekend they had off maybe a few here and there they stayed in the field but not often.

That's ok. He'll be submitting my documents to whomoever he needs to submit them to once he's checked in and then I should be getting my military ID. :) Yay. But that's good to know. I'll have to at least wait until then....:)

I dont know anything about ITB...my husband went through MCT but I just wanted to reassure you bus rides aren't all that bad.  I took a Greyhound from Pensacola, FL to a city outside of Charlotte, NC when I was 17 by myself for a funeral for someone extremely close to me and even with everything going on, it was actually pretty interesting!  So I hope he has a good trip!

    Re: He's Off to NC

Minor details...hahaha. Well ya know...I asked him about this before he left and mentioned just that....don't I have to take a picture or something? He said I'd have to go up to Southern Command, which is local... ??? I guess I'll have to figure it out when I get to that point because he has to submit all my paperwork as his wife and sign me up for the insurance and stuff and I'll need the ID for that. I'm sure I'll have to ask you ladies for help on that when the time comes.

Maggie, he said his trip wasn't that bad. Everyone made it seem so horrible. It takes a while, but he said the bus wasn't too full so it wasn't as bad as everyone made it seem. :) He should actually be arriving soon.

    Re: He's Off to NC

I'm sorry Roly had to go :( Everything will be ok though :)

Louie was in ITB so i'm very familiar with this. Roly won't call you during the week hardly ever. I got 2 calls during the week once. And that was the first few days he was there. And only because he was hiding in a locker. Yeah, lol. And although he has libo on weekends he won't get to call that much. They aren't allowed to walk and talk on the cell phone in camis and they mostly only have on base libo at Camp Geiger. They have a buddy system, so he'll be paired up with one other person and they have to stay together all day so they will be up and about doing things mostly in the Rec Center and what not, getting food, etc. Their libo usually isn't that long, and on Sunday they have to be back around 3:00 PM. And sometimes he will have fire watch too and won't be able to call. Let me know if you have any other questions!

    Re: He's Off to NC

Thanks, Andrea. He told me he didn't know how often he could call and said he probably won't be able to call for the first one or two weeks or so. So I guess he was right. :) I kept the message he left me Sunday night on the recorder at home so I could play it when I felt down. LOL. It only says he was able to book a hotel room for Monday night but it's his voice, so whatever. hahaha. I'm sure I'll have more questions for you soon enough.
