    Decision

So I recently talked to a recruiter and am looking to possibly enlist, then in two years go through college and get commisioned and become a fighter pilot. The thing is, when I mentioned it to my girlfriend, she was not fond of the idea and pulled the "would you do anything for me... then dont join" card. Now we've been together for two years and have been through some pretty rough *** and plan to get married. The thing is I really want to join, when she asked me two years ago i told her i wasn't going to. What do you guys think would be the best route to go, i understand this is just an online forum and half of you are going to say *** what the woman says and just join, but i wanna know if anybodys been in this situation and how it all worked out.

Just join, if she stays with you, fine, if not - well better now, than down the road.

Life's tough kid, it's your choice, not ours.

We made our choices - when we were in your shoes.  We joined.

Gals come and go.  You may have more fun finding a new Gal.

It's never easy making these choices, kid.

But, when you look back and you picked her over the Corps, and she's not there anymore........ you may feel more cheated, than losing a gal for your dream.

60-70% of the Marines on this Board, who served on Active Duty - went thru the samething as you and chose the Corps and never regretted it.

You have to be your own man.  What else will she make you give up (or take up) ?  People who pull that "if you love me" sh*t are on a power trip and like to crack the whip.  Do you like the feel of the lash?

What's that old Marine Corps saying - "Never under-estimate the power of P*ssy" - Good ones make ya move mountains or bad ones make ya a crackhead!

Good ones never use that "if you Love me crap!"

Remember, the recruiter has one mission - to procure bodies to be turned into Marines.  While being among the last to question the honor of a United States Marine NCO I would caution with the statement: IT IS NEVER AS GOOD AS IT SOUNDS. Do you want to be a Marine?  The Corps uses many more roto-winged than fixed wing aircraft (see Capt Ky's head banging post).  IF you become a Marine and IF you pass the requirements and IF you pass OCS and IF you pass the Basic School THEN you MIGHT get a shot at flight school IF there are slots available.  So, the question pookie is this - now that you've retrieved your b*lls from Suzie are they large enough to be satisfied with being a Marine or MUST you be some sort of forced air jock?

Kid - you haven't even made it thru Boot Camp yet, hell, you ain't even enlisted yet either.........right now, all you are is Talk.  Take one step at a time.

If you make the grade, qualify, and graduate MCRD and still have a galfriend, pass all your MOS Training, then qualify for OCS and at the same time holding on to your galfriend...........and getting an Aviation Contract.....then we'll see, if you not only talk, the talk, but walk, the walk.

    Re: Decision

I don't know if I'm allowed to post here....so feel free to remove this if you need to!

My brother is a Marine and his wife has been with him since before bootcamp. They've been faithful and gone through a lot together and came out stronger on the other side. My fiance is a Marine and it's been pretty rough sometimes, but we're stronger for it and there is no one else I'd rather be with. My cousin is a Marine and he married another Marine. Relationships in the Corps do work!

It's definitely possible to stay with a Marine, be faithful and have an amazing relationship. Ask any of the wives and gfs on this board. However, if she is having a hard time supporting your simply thinking of joining, you might need to have a serious talk with her about it before you actually enlist.  What she'll go through is nothing compared to what you'll go through, but let me tell you loving a Marine is not always a piece of cake, and she'll have her moments. If she truly loves you, she'll support whatever decision you make. If she can't be supportive of your decision to join the Marine Corps, she might not handle it so well when you're gone for months at a time and you only talk once every week or so.

I hate to sound negative and I don't want you to simply ditch her and run to the nearest recruiting station. If you love her and plan to have a marriage and a life in the Corps, you need to discuss it with her.  Best of luck!
