Being a single mother is hard work, raising your child is very important. Before you make a decision you need to think about a few things. One boot camp lasts 12 weeks. That's twelve weeks you will be away from your child. The only contact you will have is via mail, no phone calls, no eye to eye contact.. Two, when and if you graduate, not everyone does, you will have one week with your child and then to MCT for seventeen days, then off to your MOS school. Three, you will not be able to take your child to your school. Are you willing to stay away from your child that long? If you don't graduate it could take longer than 12 weeks to get off the island. Will seeing your child on weekends and holidays be enough for you and how about her? Joining the Marine Corps is a good dream to have but it's not for everone. It was hard for me when Daphne went to boot camp, I can't imagine what it would be to leave a small daughter behind. Just my two cents worth, take it or leave it. There are many ways you can help the Corps without being a Marine. You can always get a job in civil service.
