    Mailing Cookies/ Bread -?

I really would like to send brownies/ Christmas cookies/ pumpkin or zuchini bread for Thanksgiving, but I have heard many a care package horror story about the food arriving tainted or spoiled in some way or another and keep picturing a disgusting look on tha face of my boyfriend.Ick!

I know that you should NEVER put food in with things like soap. However, are their any other guidelines or recipies that might be available??

Does vacume sealing the container work sucessfully?

Any advice is GREATLY appreciated! Big Smile

    Thanks!

I don't think there is a problem as long as the air doesn't get to them.

There is also this thing called "Cake In a Jar" - Check the recipe section, or google it - but basically you cook cake batter in a canning jar, and then seal it. I wasn't able to try it the last time with Matthew, but I plan on doing it this time around.

  • When I was a young LCPL in Nam, my mom sent cookies in an old fruit cake tin and added Popped corn as padding.  The cookies were wrapped in either wax paper bags or plastic wrap(Saran Wrap was only brand then).  The cookies were a little broken up and not to stale.

    Re: Mailing Cookies/ Bread -?

I have made cake/browines/breads all in a Jar and Brad said that when they got them they tasted just like they had come out of the oven!!! I highly reccomend using this method and making LOTS of extras becuase the guys devouerd them!!!! However with cookies this is my trick to keep them fresh take two small pieces of Gladware fill them up with cookies just under the brim, do not put the lid on! just stick both of those in your foodsaver as is and vacume the air out. The vacume pressure is too much to put the cookies in there by themselves, but the gladware helps them keep thier shape and all the air can be sucked out to keep the freshness.

I heard putting a piece of bread in the ziplock bag (along with the cookies) works well to keep them fresh.

I know I'm a day late and a dollar short on this one, but I hadn't seen this mentioned.

What I've been doing when I send cookies is putting them in Pringles cans.  I use a tsp scoop for the cookies and they usually fit prefectly (I have to eat the ones that are too big).  Just make sure you tape the lid on.  I forgot one time and there were cookies everywhere in the box.
