    New to this.

    Hey.

My Marine will be going on his first deployment pretty soon and this weekend at family day i got to talk to a few of the boys mothers very briefly about care packages. But i'm still wondering a few things.

How soon after he leaves will i get an address to send things to?? His mother was saying that i just send it to his address at camp lejeune and they will forward it to Iraq...is that true?? she isn't sure either, thats just what she told me. I'm so confused, and just trying to figure things out now so i can start buying some things to send to him.

    Re: New to this.

Kyle had an address within 6 weeks of arriving in Iraq, last time. This time, he gave me an address before he left. A week later he gave me a new one.

Usually, they know their address before they leave. The problem is that it may change during the first couple weeks he's there. He will still, probably, get anything you send, but it might be a little delayed.

I wouldn't send anything to the base to be forwarded... I doubt it would go anywhere at all. I'd just wait until he calls you with a firm address that he's been given.

Have you heard about motomail? Let me know when you have an address for him, and I can show you how to send him motomails. They are free, and faster than regular mail. Good luck.

My son is at NC.,just before he left for Cali he called, with his address for Iraq.  He will be going soon, so maybe you will have it before he leaves for Cali.

On Matthew's last deployment we had an address before he shipped for Iraq, but he told me to wait to send anything until he called and told me it was alright to send packages... I heard from him about a week after he shipped and got the green light.

I definately would not send him things to the base here stateside - it might get to him, but its going to take ALOT longer than it would if you sent it straight to the overseas address.

Go to motomail.us and sign up for an account.  It is pretty easy.  You don't need to know his address, you need his unit and company.  Then, you write him letters on it, they print them over there and mail it like a letter.  It only takes a couple days, depending on where they are.  Since Brian is off the main base, this is the easiest way for me to write him.

Well, now that he's gone, I do have his address. He gave it to me Monday. I finally have my motomail account set up, but I probably wont send him too much from that. We talked about it, and he said he'd much rather wait to get a hand written letter from me than to send it from motomail. lol, but i'll use it to send him little notes and stuff.

Now its just figuring out what to send in his first package!!!! lol
