Joining the Marines in about a month and wondering about MOS 2111
Hello!
In the coming month I will be getting my high school diploma from my home schooling program (I only did the last year of it in home schooling, the rest of it was through public schooling). I have been working out continuously pretty much everyday, along with studying Marine Corps History (which is very interesting to me and always has been), memorizing General Orders, 6 Articles Code of Conduct, Marine Hymn, Marine Corps Values, Rifle Creed, and Dimensions of the M16A2 rifle and M16A4 rifle. In 6th through 8th Grade I was on a local drill team called "The Wheeler Rifles". We all learned how to do Ceremonial Drill, and we preformed very often for our city here in Alabama. I learned how to do this plus I was on what was called the "Specialty Drill Team", we would do things like throw our rifles up 10ft in the air then catch them and do a whole lot of spins, tricks and such. I never missed an event, and I won their highest award only awarded to a few in the drill teams history. For one year I was the SSgt. and I trained pretty much everyone on our drill team how to do the basic drill and ceremony. The next year they promoted me to Platoon leader. When I was in 11th grade they emplaced an Army Jr. ROTC class at my school. I asked to be a squad leader and they made me S-2 Cadet Captain. However I think I only got one or two credits in that class because I ended up going to home schooling. I have studied military history my entire life. I collect guns from all around the world. I know how to take apart, clean maintain and operate such weapons as AK-47, SKS, Mosin Nagant, Mauser K98, Luger P08, Walther P.38, M-1 Garand, CZ52, TT33, Lee Enfield, among many others. My passion since childhood has been firearms, and the military. Pretty soon I will be able to join, and I was wondering if I was to become an MOS 2111 Small Arms Technician, what could I expect my job to be like? Would I be able to work with all Marine firearms along with foreign ones? Would I most likely go to Iraq or Afghanistan (which is where I want to go)? If I was to mention my prior drill team experience could I possibly get extra rank?
Thanks to all the Marines here for your service, I can only hope I'm good enough to join in your ranks soon.
