    NutriSystem

I am thinking of trying the NutriSystem Silver for Men diet. I need to lose about 35 to 40 lbs and it's tough for an old fart like me. Has anyone had any experience with this one?

My husband went on it and lost 50lbs.  He was able to get off of his insulin because his sugar was about perfect all the time. Since he has been off of it he has gained some of his weight back.

Thanks, PattyL, that's encouraging. I think I will give it a shot. One more question, what about alcohol consumption, is that a no no?

He wasn't on the silver he was on the mens program. Don't know anything about alcohol because he rarely ever could drink alcohol because of the sugar involved.  If a person isn't a diabetic I don't think the sugar or the alcohol would be a  problem. There were times I thought that he was going to starve to death and he did complain quite a bit about being hungry, but we started supplementing the meals with lots of salads, cucumbers and green beans which helped a lot.  After you order about 3 times they start giving you a 15% discount. It averaged out being about 325 per month.  The convenience is so wonderful and no refrigeration involved.  I wish that he would go back on it, but he likes to eat out a lot.  He was on it for at least 1 year and he learned a lot about portion control.   Since he has been off of it he gained 25 lbs back, but its still better than it was before.

Just a bit of information. Most weight loss programs are a quick fix and you will lose the weight for awhile. The main thing is to learn how to eat and what to eat. Exercise plays a big part in keeping the weight off, any type of exercise is better than none. Walking is a good exercise when you get your heart rate up for roughly 20 minutes at least 3 times a week.

As for the weight part, a little thing I did was this. Weigh yourself and take that weight and multiply it by 12. That is the total calorie intake that you have to have per day to maintain your current weight. Lower your calories and exercise, you will lose the weight. It might be a little slower coming off, but you shouldn't gain it back as quickly either. Good Luck.

Also, you won't be spending allot of money on the meals that actually cut your calories for you. You can find the calorie charts on line.
