    Just looking for some answers

i want to join the corp more than anything...ever since i started thinking about joining it has been all i can think of doing. My problem is that i do not know if i can physically do it. i am 5'8 190 pounds and i was hoping that someone could describe to me what the recruiters would do to help.

P.S. is it normal to not be able to describe why you want to do this? when family members ask me why i want to join i do not have a hard explanation...it is just something i feel like i have to do

Best advise: Go see the recruiter. If you have what it takes to give it your best (no matter what your physical limits are), your recruiter will do everything he can to help prepare you for bootcamp. The Marine Corps will get you in the best shape of your life, but it all starts with YOU.

When my friends and family asked me "Why" I always told them "Because I want a challenge". Not one person could give me a better alternative.

As stated already, go see the recruiter; you're mising the boat if you haven't. As far as how they will help, ask them to explain the pool program and the various activites you will take part in at monthly pool functions.

When people asked me why I did it, I told them, "I don't want to be laying on my death bed wasting my last breath asking myself, 'I wonder if I could have been a Marine'?"

Good line Pappy.... 'I wonder if I could have been a Marine'?"  As said above....first thing to do is see the recruiter.

Physically, there are no limitations...I've known some people who were so small, it looked lik a light wind could blow them over, and yet, there are the "Magilla Gorilla" types who look like they could pummel you with one finger...and more ofter then not, it's the "Magilla Gorilla" types who dont make it....To much body or muscle mass....They move to slow, or dont have the mental capacity of a Ironing board....lol

Mentally...that's a different story...You have to be able to think on your feet. If you cant handle someone getting in your face, screaming and yelling at you...If you cant follow simple directions or commands, then you're not going to make it... Dont get me wrong, Boot camp is both Physically AND Mentally Challenging....but you shouldn't think " I shoulda"  " I woulda" or  " I think I can"....There are 2 types of people in this world....  "Will he's" and "Can he's"....Almost everyone is the second.... "Can he do it?" Sure you can.... "Will he do it?" That's up to you...dont' procrastinate.....either *** or get off the pot  :-)

As for Reasons for joining? There are so many...mine was I either joined the Military, or I went to Jail...plain and simple... and I'm glad I did... Not only did it teach me about Respect, but it gave me the discipline I had lacked in my life

Go talk to your recruiter....once you do, you'll get a better understanding as to what we're talking about...

     Good Luck to you....
