I am a reservist in Spokane, WA. I have a friend who is comming to college here in Spokane next year and wants to join the Spokane reserve Battery. Once he gets here to Spokane, he will be only ten miles from the reserve center, but his "home of record" will still be in California. Is it possible to join the Spokane unit? Would he have to put his Spokane address as his home of record? Have any of you encountered a similar situation?
His California recruiter told him he'd have to DEP in Cali, go to bootcamp out of his Newport Beach MEPS, then get a unit transfer up to Spokane. Would it be possible to just DEP with the Spokane recruiters and work it all out as if he lived up here?
He won't be able to go to bootcamp until after Fall Term 2008 because he is dealing with orthodontic issues (braces comming off, oral surgery) this summer. He's already seen a MEPS doctor and been told that after the surgery he will be fit for service.
