OUT-Frigin'-STANDING! (except for the guy crying about his drunk dad)

That little flick, brought back so many memories........kinda bitter-sweet, but damn lucky to have lived "that Life" as an Army Brat!  I would never trade it ever it, but would love to repeat it again!

Again, I remember my Father and his Buddies drinking, but not to the point of no return!  They were happy and funny, and the "Moms" would hold back - till they crossed that imaginary line and drug their men home, I remember on Filipina wife (Loe's mom), poking Leo's dad all the way home with a baseball bat and jabbering in Tugali and me and Leo just laughing our A$$es off about it, and my Mother using the water hose to corral my Dad home.  This only happened when they came home from Deployment, like Viet-Nam.

    I totally relate Miller...

Dad and his buddies often carried on well into the evenings (and on occasion, mornings). Drinking was not so taboo back in the day and the NCO/Officer clubs were part of the military community (most of them suck ass today) and not a career ending thing like today!

I remember my mom had to go pick my dad up once (drunk tank on base) cause they had pulled him over on his way home. (today you would be up a creek without a paddle) When she got there, dad was no where to be found. Turns out that the MP's had failed to lock the door and he simple walked out... Sure as hell, when they arrived at the NCO club, there he was with a sh*t eatin grin on his face offering a drink to mom and the MP's. Mom said she was embarrased and the MP's just sort of snickered as they went their way. (Like I said, today that would be career ending)

Sports (I played football, baseball and loved going to the rec center and gym) were a big part of a brats life on base! In the summer we would all meet and hang at the base pool, go bowling, movies, etc...  (great fun and super cheap). Like you, I'de love to go back and do it all over again... (except the Vietnam deployment thing... I still remember how hard that was on mom) As a matter of fact, I'de give my left nut to be able and go back (I don't need it anyways as I've got my kids already...LOL) and do it again...

I leave on my next military space-a adventure in less than 10 days now (going to Germany for a quick trip). I look forward to being around the bases and doing a little walk down memory lane...

    Re: for all the brats...

I hear ya, one day in the 3rd grade, we were all sent home early.  The good Sisters had very worried faces as they loaded us into the bus back to Schoefield Bks.  The streets were just about lined with the O.D. Army sedans, with Officers, SNCOs, and Chaplains, stopping in twos and threes to deliver the bad news that 35th Regt got hit hard, and many weren't coming home.  It was a very bad day, My Mom, Mrs King, Mrs O'Brian, and Mrs Peach waited together that day - standing together on the walkway infront of our 4-plex -watching as the men in Class A's went to various doors of other 4 plexes.  No one knocked on our door or theirs that day.  But Mrs Williams and Rivera got the visit.  In about a month those Ladies and their Families (our friends) were moved back home to wherever, there were a lot of empty homes on McCormack Street.

When an OD Army sedan came down the street and it didn't have Military Police painted on it, everyone stopped and watched where it went.

Yup, We hug out at the Schoefield Bks pool by the Golf Course, it was one big pool.  Did the Cub Scout thing at Schoefield and Ft Lewis.
