How do I know, because they have a place of honor in my den. If I can make it this year I would be honoredto read these same  names as I did five years ago.  I cannot commit myself at this time, but you may sure that if I am ab le I will be therein D.C. to renew my friendship with the new  and old of the Gritters. Re: DC GriTogether November 2007

I hate to bring this up, but we should probably get back to the original point of Top's post.  I have seen zero, nade, zilch, no mention of anyone having reserved a set of rooms OR the small conference room for the get-together.  If they doesn't happen soon we could be scattered all over creation.  Anyone picking up the ball to run with it?

If by that quote you mean me John, I cannot do it.  I'm already on the hook to help with 2/9's reunion since our previous organizer had a massive heart attack earlier this year.  He's recovering but I do not know how well, nor how much he can do.  I'm actually waiting for a response from the 2/9 network guru on moving to make the necessary arrangements if they need the help.  I suspect they do.  I cannot and will not get involved in TWO reunions, being hundreds of miles from the site and working during the week part-time.

Bro Danny:  I did mean you...but since you seem to be preoccupied with other "stuff", I surly understand.  I too am cordinating a large reunion for the Vietnam Tankers Association in Las Vegas.  The only difference between us is that I am still working full-time.  I thought that that there are several of the DC Grit Together attendees who plan to be there but who may want to volunteer to help out with this easy-to-fix telephone call to the VA Suites and repeat what DD Billy did several years in a row.  My other motivation for asking obliquely for you to do it was that since both events are in the same location, what would be the difference in asking for (maybe) ten more rooms at the same rate?

God bless your 2/9 reunion organizer who suffered the heart attack...I sure hope that it does mean that most reunion organizers have such ill health!!!  Heaven Forbid!!!

I will gladly get the ball rolling on this end and see what I can do. Will give the Virginian  Suites a ring and see what they can offer us. If memory serves me correct we had the year I went about 12 or 15 rooms reserved right. Also I will check into the the Conference  room for us to hang out in the evening of the 9th and the 10th. Talked to Mama Barb about it and she gave me the go-ahead. Will also check into free parking for those of you who need it.

Okay team, it's come to my attention that no one has contacted the Virginian Suites about a block of rooms for us for November.  I will be happy to do that if we can still get them, but I will need a rough estimate as to how many are coming.  Please either post here or send me a message and let me know if you're a definite or a probably.  Also let me know if you've already made a reservation and what day you plan to arrive and how many nights you'll be staying.  I will try to get a conference room for us, but they may already be booked.  Please let me know one way or another ASAP.  I'd like to call them by the end of this week if possible.  Thanks!

Right now it is my intent to be there.  Barb and I discussed sharing a room - I plan to be there Friday/Sat night and maybe Sunday night - we have a lot to do in just a couple of days - the ceremony at the memorial, the reading of the names and a tour of the museum....

John, I've checked the VVMF website to see if they have the regisration forms posted yet,but didn't see them anywhere. Am I not looking in the right place? Just wondered cause as you know I plan to be in the Gritsters group reading the names that you will sign up, and I also hope to sign up and get a list with a specific name on it.

Later that night, while I was thinking about the day's somber events, Cpl. Richard A. Mason, an infantryman with Headquarters Platoon, who, in the short time I was with the company became a good friend, told me, "You're still here, don't forget that. Tell your kids, your grandkids, what Sgt. Peralta did for you and the other Marines today."
Quote from a story written by combat correspondent LCpl Travis J. Kaemmerer who, unfortunately, died in a car crash in Virginia after returning from Iraq.
