Hey guys, im new here so if there is another post like this im sorry, but for the mean time i was kinda hoping for some honest opinions. I have already decided that I am going into the service in either the Army or the Marines but that is where my problem is. I have done research on both and everytime it just seems to get harder. I realize that i should talk to both recruiters but i was hoping for some advice first here. It seems like one day i want to do the army then the next i want the Marines and i was hoping that you could try and narrow that gap. I also know that i should base my desicion on what i want to do. I know that you guys claim to have a harder boot camp and higher excpectations but i am in great shape as i can score a perfect score in the army standards (not sure of the marine standards) but that is 2 miles in 13:00 minutes 73+ push ups in 2 minutes and 83 + situps in 2 minutes. I am doing well in school and i could definetly do well in asvawb (not sure if i spelt that right, and im not trying to brag or anything, definetly not, but i just wanted to give you guys a better understanding of me for more help). I know that the marines have mfr which is there spec ops but its extremely hard to become one of them because you have to be selected by an officer or chosen and that u cant just sign up for it, but in the army i would definetly get the option 4 on the contract for airborne and then go to rip (ranger introduction program), i know that these arent easy like a cake walk but i definetly strive for the best and i defenitly think i could do it (not because i saw them in some cool movie and they looked good , not me either), so with all that i was just hoping to get some awswers and all but i exspect all Marine sided answers beacause this is..a Marine forum lol which is good because im trying to get all aspects so all help is aprreciated thank you , and thank you for your service.

Welcome, couple things.....Always spell Marines with a capital "M".........If you want to be the best there is only one choice...... Now for real go to a Marine recruiter and see what they can do for you....Compare them side by side.... Good luck

You have NOT even mastered the art of the English language and you want someone to put a Heavy Machine gun or C4 in your hands? How about trying to write a post that doesn't sound like someone w/o an education wrote it!!!!

What I noticed with just the recruiters is this. Army - Recruiters almost begging me to join. Promise me all this crap, give me all these reasons to join. Saying how good it will be. I know a lot of it is B.S. Marines - Sat down and explained what they could do for me, but also what I should expect. I could tell that he wanted me to make the decision, not him.

Dont take this as a personal slight because it's not offered as such but here's the baseline reality. If you do not Want the Marine Corps with a capitol Want then the Marine Corps does not want you. There is little to no room in the Corps these days for those not fully committed to the Corps.
Equivocation is the first step along the road to capitulation.

There is nothing wrong with trying to find out whats best for you BEFORE you enlist. I assume you don't know your MOS yet as you have not taken the ASVAB test, correct? Regardless of your MOS, IMO the USMC is the best, hands down. Sure the Army has the Rangers and you can work on jets in the Air Force, or go on a ship in the USN, but the USMC is the only branch where you can do all three. You can go into the grunts and realize how much that sucks, re-enlist for an AirWinger MOS and you will be working on jets, (and get all the chicks), AND be on an Aircraft Carrier.....now do you see how you can do all three while in the Marines? I won't even mention all the fun you will have.

Sounds pretty identical to my experiences! I wasn't even looking to enlist at the time but when I went to the Army recruiter with my boyfriend, the recruiter there kept turning to me saying "You want to be a nurse? We need nurses. I can sign you up!" And going on about all the "benefits" and whatever, and I just kept saying "No. Sorry. Marine child here. Nope. Sorry can't do it!" Then the Marine recruiter, exactly how you described it. They kept telling me they couldn't guarantee anything as far as MOS was concerned, and left it to my decision completely. Just encouraged me to get the ASVAB overwith since it's good for two years, and I'll make my mind up by then :P

Way, way back, when I went to my first recruiter it was like this...I wanted to work on jets. Actually I wanted to fly them but for lots of reasons I wasn't able to go to college. So I figured working on them is the next best thing. I initially wanted to go into the Air Force, however everytime I went to see the recruiter he was NEVER there. This went on for over a week, (when you're a Jr. in Highschool, a week is forever). The only recruiter that was there, almost always, was a Marine. I thought he looked sharp and I was always impressed by the Marines. I didn't, however, know that even had airplanes!! Thats the truth. One time when going to check on the Air Force guy I popped my head into the Marines office as asked if the A/F guy was ever there? They said he was an A/F and is always out to lunch, or something like that. We started to talk and he asked what I was looking for and I told him I wanted to work on jets. The recruiter, GySgt Teigent, asked me why I didn't want to work on jets AND be part of the best team in the world, the USMC? I told him I didn't know the Marines had planes. He just laughed and invited me in to sit down and talk. He was right, I was able to work on jets AND be a Marine...the best of both worlds! I signed up a year before I went in and got to know Gy. Teigent and the other guys in the office, real well. And yes I still, after 30 years, remember my recruiter like it was yesterday. Anyway, onto another point....are you guys saying that one is not guaranteed an MOS anylonger? When I enlisted and with my ASVAB score I was guaranteed aviation...the exact MOS wasn't promised but a job in aviation was. Is that not how it still is? Also IWI987, are you going in the Marines? One of my daughters is interested, again. She is now 22. She was interested out of highschool but didn't pursue it for some reason. Now she is thinking of it again. She did have a few issues, medically. She played soccer in school and had a knee operation. I think last time the recruiter told her that she needed a doctors ok or something like that. Was just curious if you were going into the USMC and if so am I to assume you have no idea what your career is going to be?

Oh I'm going to enlist, there's no doubt about it. It's just a matter of when (After a year of college? a semester? Haven't made up my mind). And I know what I want to do. I want to be a working dog handler. But that's not guaranteed. MP is assuming I get through the training, but not being able to work with the dogs. That's my dream though (Yay Rin-tin-tin! haha)

Can you be guaranteed the MP field in general and the specific field comes about on how you do in MP school?
Noticed you're a Taoist? Me too.
