Hello, my name is Eric if you do not know me. I have a brief question about your MOS contract. I was at a Veteran's Service today and I spoke with a Marine that was there. He told me that he had picked his MOS specifically before he went into boot camp. He told me that instead of having a   03XX I could be guaranteed a 0311. I thought that was only decided at Infantry Training. Could someone please tell me which is true? And if he is correct, is there any way I can change my contract to specifially guarantee that? Any help would be appreciated. Thank you in advance.

In the past, you could pick a specific MOS, also with the Reserves, you can pick a specific MOS, but that hasn't been the case for some time with the active duty Marines.  The first question you should ask, is this Marine a recruiter?  You'll find in the Corps that everyone has an opinion, and a few know what the real scoop is.  The true scoop is, your can enlist as an 03XX. 

I should have clarified he has been out of the Marine Corps since Vietnam, so that would explain why he thought you could. Thank you for your help.
