I just asked the post office when I was there wednesday - they said priority is Dec 11th. Then I was like "okay, what is the ABSOLUTE latest I could send something and have it get there??" I think they thought I was crazy..Anyways they told me December 18th but that I'd be expensive - so they suggested I get it out before then.

    Re: xmas?

I have gotten to be rather friendly with the workers at my post office (since my boyfriends deployment several months ago. I did the online check to get the December 11th date. I verified this with my post office, but then asked sincerely when THEY personally would send the package. All three of them told me the same thing, if you have the money and the time now, get it OUT. (Luckily today was my pay day, so guess who is getting in early to work so that she can do a little Christmas shopping!)

She said that you can always tell them to keep the packages wrapped until then Christmas which they ususally will...

(to which I thought, unless they are like me).

Additionally if you are sending along decorations they will get more use out of them. I know that when I spoke with my boyfriend last weekend he mentioned that they are starting to get lots of holiday packages already. There are a lot of snack foods and sweets so there was no need to send more.  (At which point I said I would never dream of it and laughed as I have a Hickory Farms Thanksgiving package on the way. At least it is not sweets, or breads which I am sure are the most of the packages.)

What will be hardest for me will be NOT telling my boyfriend what is in all of those packages.. for so many weeks!

So I would say if you can afford to get it out, get it out now! And if you do want to send Christmas cookies or something perishable you can always mail them along later! :")

    Hope this helps!

    IMPORTANT- CHRISTMAS DATES

This weekend I got to talk to my cutie in Iraq. *yey!*

One of the points that he made (I am wondering if it was the reason for the call- lol!). Was that they are now telling the guys where he is (at a small  FOB) that they are getting so much mail that care packages must be sent by DECEMBER 2nd if they are to reach them by December 25th (Christmas)!

I just wanted to let you know since I know the post office had noted December 11th and you were interested in knowing.

    best of luck!

    Re: IMPORTANT- CHRISTMAS DATES

I was totally freaking out thinking my stuff wouldn't get there in time. So me and all my girls sent our stuff the week of Thanksgiving, and they just got the stuff like last week. So, early Christmas if you will. lol

i am starting to get nervous! i sent my boyfriend some mugs on a phoned in request on a Saturday (weeks & weeks ago). that Monday I shipped out four boxes (one rather large marked fragil...) now he got the package with the mugs for him & the roomates, but didn't yet get the others... Sad

has anyone ever had a package NOT get there?

also i sent him a frantic email last week to warn him that there would be SEVERE penalties for opening them early! (i was going to say i would come out there myself and kick his ass, but then thought better of it!) Cool

    Re: IMPORTANT- CHRISTMAS DATES

I have heard of packages not getting there. But the only cases i've heard is because someone opened the packages because of what they saw was in it on the customs sticker on the box. If that makes sense.

A guy in Louie's squad had his wife send him an iPod and on the customs form she put "iPod"...yeah, mistake. Because he definitley never got it because someone saw it was an iPod and took it. Because whoever took it put the package back in the mail after they had opened it and took the iPod but left the iPod box and everything else in the package. Isn't that awful?

that is horrible! WHO are these people! Angry
i definintely did NOT put descriptions on the box... which is what has me a little worried. I simply put "Christmas presents" I mean you can't SAY what they are.... that defeats the purpose of wrapping them right? i had a very nice electronic gift $$$ in with a blanket I made myself (my first ever)!

I hope he gets it! still no word on him recieving it... i just don't understand why. i also had a box with his stocking & a box with Christmas party bags for his roomates full of goodies.. seriously if there is a Grinch out there and he gets these boxes he had better watch out because I will find him!

Do you think the fact that I didn't label them could cause them not to go through?

    *sigh*

if he doesn't get them by Christmas I will CRY. [:'(]

I don't think you not labeling it would cause him to not get it. I think the mail is just so backed up that its taking forever. My friend sent her boyfriend a blanket and some other things like 4 1/2 weeks ago and he just got it yesterday.

First off EEEEEEEK! That is absolutely horrible!!!

Secondly, do they (the post office, customs, etc...) open every package you send? I always have to use a big brown box from work, so I cover it with that brown paper bag like paper really nicely and then ship it off, but my mom said that might not be the best idea because what if they have to open it, or what if the brown paper rips and the address comes off... so I was wondering if I should stop wrapping it in that paper. The last package I sent I didn't do that to, but he's gotten others that I wrapped like that...

(BTW: I have an "adopted" soldier who is in Iraq, that is the "he" I am talking about, so as to not cause confusion!)

    Re: IMPORTANT- CHRISTMAS DATES

As far as I know they don't open the packages.

And that is such a sweet idea to adopt a solider. I wish I could have known about doing that. I would have done it a long time ago!! lol
