I just wanted to say hi to anyone who is a Marine brat, former or current. It's not always a piece of cake to be one of us. Things can be hard, but we've learned to adapt and overcome. I hope you won't be afraid to share your experiences with other brats, or share any issues you are having. Hopefully, for some of you, you can reconnect with friends you've since moved away from.

The life of a military brat, always being the new kid in school, having no idea what it feels like to grow up around the same people all your life. Being able to spot an Officer's kid from twenty miles away. Being able to tell your moves by the grade of school you were in or the age you were. Being able to connect with any other military brat, because you all have had the same experiences. Was it hard, Yes, would I change any of it, NO WAY.

I did 14 schools in 13 years (K-12) not just because of military, but after a while I think Pops just thought he always had to move. Every time I thought we would settle, it was time to pack up again. I know what it's like not to have any real freindship ties.

The old man, sent us to parochial schools, we moved on average - every two years or so. It was the most fun childhood, a kid could ever have! Never really had a problem being the new kid, hell - 60-70 percent of my classmates were Military Dependants.

Hello fellow "brats"... I was born in a military hospital and traveled around the world from base to base. I've been under the military umbrella since birth! 2 weeks after my 18th birthday I reported for military duty and became a bonifide ID card holder on my own merits. Two of my siblings did the same so I guess it runs in our blood. I was medically retired at the ripe ol age of 22 (blinded in one eye) so I still hold a military ID. I often visit military bases around the world as I travel military space-a and feel right at home. Changing countries/cities/schools is the norm for us "brats" and I personaly wouldn't have it any other way. I have fond memories of my military childhood and don't feel like a missed a thing, in fact I think I gained experience that others can only envy. Cheers to all my fellow "brats".

When I first went to live with my Grandmother when Daddy went overseas the first time, I thought it was sad that none of the kid's, in my first grade class, Dads had jobs. How could they have, they had never been out of the state of Ohio.

When my Father retired from the Army, and I was the only Military Brat in school, my classmates told me, that I was a Liar, and was never in those places and countries........now that was a shocker to me, cause, I thought until then, everyone's Father served. But good old Sr Anne one day asked me to tell the class, what it was like to live in Hawaii, Alaska, Germany, Italy, and Japan. They were floored, that I wasn't a liar........but I could spin a good sea story to some wide-eyed classmates!

LOL... I hear you guys/gals and can relate... Even after my Dad retired in 74, he just couldn't seem to settle down. We went from Ohio to upstate NY, then to Texas and then finally Florida. Even once we were in Florida he moved us...LOL. ( I did my junior and senior years in different cities/schools here in Florida) When I went off to boot, it was no big deal... yes, it was shocking all the same but I just couldn't relate to the others who had never been away from home before. It still runs in my blood cause 2-3 times a year I have to get up and go somewhere.
