Car wheels that sound like "spokey-dokes"
Hubby has a 1995 Nissan Altima. When we turn the wheels to back up out of the driveway, or make a sharp or deep turn, the back wheels make a kind of "popping" or "clicking" noise, sort of like the old "Spokey Dokes" that we used to put on our bike spokes. Other than that, the wheels seem to be fine. I'd hate to be driving by myself down I-4 and have my back wheels fall off... Any ideas what it might be? Lori

My 2000 Jeep cherokee does the same thing but the tires it has are too big and it is the tires clipping the wheel well. you may want to have your wheel bearings checked or perhaps your CV joints

Check the plastic piece that forms around the wheel weld, it may be lose or the ite may be rubbing against it.

Re: Car wheels that sound like "spokey-dokes"
On a front wheel drive car, the CV joints are in the front. I'd have to say start by having the rear wheel bearings checked. First, though, before you spend any money, does one side seem to do it, or do both sides make the noise? Does it seem to do it more turning one way than the other? (Turning right vs turning left). What kind of wheels does it have? Sometimes a rock can get inside a wheel cover and drive you nuts. SF crate

I agree with you Mike, sounds like the bearings of the rear axels. . . the problem "could" mean that it is "Cracked"(the bearing. . . ) and only makes the sound backing up, forward-no problem. . . if it is-its not something to let go. Get it checked soon. . . good luck!

Re: Car wheels that sound like "spokey-dokes"
If you hear a click-click sound coming from the front wheels of a car it 90% of the time the CV joints. From the back, I'd have to say the Axle or axle bear. The odd thing is that it's happening on non-turning wheels only on sharp turns. Are you sure it's coming from the back?
