Wrong reason to join the Marine Corps.
If you want someone to pay for college, join the Army or someone else.

And everything is waiverable, it would depend on the amount of mobility loss in your foot. If you can run, weight lift and all on it without a problem. Than you should be fine.
If you can't hop around on it by itself, you ain't joining.

I am a wanna-be, so here is my .5 cent [;)]. I had to get 2 waivers, both were what the MEPS doctors marked "3P" which they explained ment that they were disqualifiers and not waivable. I wrote a letter with my waiver request explaining that despite having hersch brungs, I had no continuing effects and could function completly normally. I also included a statement of activity, saying I can run normally, workout, play hockey, stuff like that. From my experiences, as long as you dont have anything that would physically hinder you, you should be able to get a waiver, baically what TheYetti already said.
PS, that monkey is hilarous

WHAT? You want to join the World's Greatest Fighting Men to get money for school and the experience??? You want to join MY Corps for your own gain? I think you got the wrong place, brother. If this really your path, choose the Air Force. You get to see the world and meet great people.
The Corps is a diffrent animal...

To those who have responded, first and foremost, thanks. And I should have clarified my motives. By experience, I mean the experience of being a Marine. While it will help pay for college, it will also give me pride and confidence beyond anything I can imagine. And yes, even now I can run, lift weights, and do those sorts of things without problems. I was considering having the surgery only because although it may not be neccessary now, I do not want to run into any problems with it while in. I was also considering doing active duty and taking online college courses. I am not joining just for the money, my main reason is to serve my country, and if I want to do that, I might as well serve with the best. If I wanted a way to just pay for college, I would apply for financial aid, scholarships, and loans, but money isn't my biggest issue.

Advice Number One:
If the Doc says get the surgery or you will be hurting later, get the surgery.
Advice Number Two:
Wait till you hear from the Doc.

The doctor did say the surgery may not be neccessary. However, if I go to MEPS and it appears to be a problem would they be able to discuss possible treatments with me? If not them, who else could I speak to? Although the doctor I am seeing now is considered one of the best, I would also like a military opinion in addition to his.
Ok MEPS isn't there for a second opinion.
Their job is to find anything to DQ you before they waste their money training your maggot butt.
If you want a second opinion see a private doc.
You know there is a reason they call it a 'practice' right.
And I will say it one more time.
GET CLEARED BY YOUR DOCTOR, THAT IS YOUR PRIVATE PHYSICIAN
THEN GO THROUGH THE PROCESS OF JOINING
Ugh,

No matter what your own doctor says, the MEPS can still DQ you. They don't care about private physicians' assessments unless they are the ones who send you to get the consult.
I failed my physical. The MEPS recommended a consult with a doctor they selected. He supported the MEPS and upheld that I was not fit.
I pursued a waiver, which is nothing but paperwork, and it was sent somewhere. I don't know where and I don't care. I only know that I got the waiver and it over-rode the MEPS doctors. My records still show a failed enlistment physical but the waiver basically says, "We know he is broken but we want to give him a shot anyway."
If you want to be a Marine, you can. You just have to decide how badly you want it. There was no way in hell (or anywhere else for that matter) that I was going to accept anybody telling me that I couldn't do it; much less have a chance to try.
Make a decision and stick with it. If one tells you "No", go to the next person. Just like we have a chain of command as Marines, there is a chain of command to follow in pursuing enlistment. Follow it and work it until you've exhausted it.
Good luck.

Welcome Jason , now just a few things #1 it is not the "marine core" it is the Marines Corps , I am not a damn fish. #2 you really shoudn't have your DOB in you profile . and #3 if you are serious about becoming a Marine your "militia" isn't something that will score high for you when trying to become a Marine .
You dn't need to try to impress the Marines on this board with that Crap, we have Marines from all wars here from Iwo Jima to Iraq.

Re: RE: Considering joining
Hi my name is John and I am also contemplating joining the Marine Corps. I've tried bringing this up to my parents several times, but to no avail. I do well in school, and they say that i don't need to join the Marine Corps, or any branch of the armed services and go get myself killed. I beg to differ. I plan on going to college after my senior year of high school, but i also want to enlist when i graduate college. Does it make a difference when you join? Because all ive wanted to do since i started high school is to become a Marine. It is a goal of mine, and I always do what i set my mind to.Its like a part of me, and without it, i feel like my life would be incomplete. Call me crazy, but i just want to be a MARINE!
