    "Boot Camp Blues"???

Hi everyone, I'm brand-new here, having just graduated from another board when my son graduated from bootcamp. He's in the "92 day reservist" program, so instead of going on to mct/mos, he goes back to school, does drill each month, then next summer does his follow-up training. Anyway, he came home last night to get his gear together for drill this week-end, and he said that he finally has the "boot camp blues", defined as a sense of letdown after bootcamp when you start to see civilians as those nasty creatures your DI's told you they were! I think he's a little frustrated at not putting his training to use; this week-end he'll get a good dose of being a Marine again. Do any other moms recall hearing about anything like this? Debbie

Thank you, Mark....the sense of family is what got me through boot and will get me through whatever else I will face as the mom of a Marine. I've already experienced the pride, but I'm sure it will be repeated over and over. I wouldn't have been surprised if he came home and said "Mom, I want to go active duty". He actually said he'd thought about it, but promised himself and me that he would finish college first. I'm not sure how he can do both. But...if he ever DOES say that, he'll have my full support. Thanks, Angie! Im thinking I may contact a local university, see what kinds of classes they offer here. If there's ever a chance of a deployment, it would be easier for him to up and leave from home than college. So...we'll see. Debbie

What exactly is Boot Camp Blues? I'll hopefully be leaving for Boot Camp in the coming months and I would like to know what this is. It makes you dislike civilians? Miss training?

I think that is what my son went through when all of a sudden he realized that he had nothing in common with his civilian friends. I think after you go through the life and death training you see everything differently forever. You value the people that are trained to watch your back in combat and you realize that is the only kind of friend worth having
