    Help! Son has Pneumonia!!!

My son's at MCRD San Diego, was to graduate 8/18, called me yesterday and has pneumonia!!! Sent to Medical Rehabilitation Platoon for 2 weeks. He's only gone to the doctor once in 10 years for illness!!! He sounded terrible and I'm now getting frantic!!! Is there somewhere I can call to find out more about him??? Or do I have to get on a plane and storm the base????? Please anyone who has any info let me know! He said 5 other guys in his platoon went, with bronchitis and pneumonia!!!

Call his recruiter and he should be able to get you some information. Storming the base won't help. They are taking good care of him. Unfortunately pneumonia is a common illness that happens to recruits. I was lucky with Daphne all she suffered from was homesickness.

    RE: Help! Son has Pneumonia!!!

My twin sons graduated MCRD San Diego in April and coughed all the way home. I took them to the ER the day after we came home and they put them on 'Z-pak' antibiotics and cough medicine and they were fine when they went to MCT but it took the whole 10 days fo boot leave and 7 days recruiter assistance to recover. Since your son has already been dropped to MRP, he will get the rest and meds he needs to recover. It is a good thing for his health, just hurt the ego to be dropped. He will be OK. Hang in there, Mom.

As much as every part of you screams they are killing my son. Stay home! They will take care of him. Just some friendly advise.

Hang in there. Jeremy was sick during boot camp also...never turned into pneumonia but was close. He still sounds bad now, but it's because of allergies now. All I know is that he doesn't sound like the same boy I sent to boot camp 4 1/2 months ago.

I just graduated on the 16th, so the memories are fresh. MRP is good for him. They will treat him well. And everyone (EVERYONE) gets sick during boot camp. I had bronchitis twice and ran a 101 degree fever and was coughing up blood on field week and I'm fine now. Your son will be ok. As hard as they are on you there they do really care about recruits, as hard as it is to believe.

Hun, Dont worry he will be ok. I will tell you that it is normal for you to get sick in bootcamp. It is called the recruit crud. Everyone gets something may it be a little or allot they get something. It is because you have all these people from all over the place with all kinds of different germs now sleeping, eating, showering and everything in the little space so all the germs just spread like wildfire. It will be ok. He will get better and continue training when he is up to par. It is better for him that way. He might not think it is now but it is.
